Thia (Hamilton)

Original pastel paintings of the Maine coast — seascapes, skies, and rocky shoreline. Thia's work captures the changing light and mood of Midcoast Maine, where water, wind, and stone never look quite the same twice.

Seascapes

When I paint the sea, I am noticing not the big expanse as a broadseascape as much as a moment in time when the water moves in an unrepeatable gesture or the light hits and bounces faster than the eye can comprehend. I work from my own photographs, not plein air, as the rapid shutter speed is the only thing that comes even close to capturing that "gone again" instant. I try to express moments of shift and change.
