Capturing an Instant Forever

Raised in a family of artists and art enthusiasts, I was fortunate to have a childhood of creative freedom and encouragement.

Early undergraduate studies were in the studio arts, although after touring Europe on my own during a semester, I swerved into more human-centered studies. Eventually, my scholarly pursuits culminated in a Ph.D. in Human Systems. That doesn't sound very arty, but my particular interests lie at the intersection of visual and human sciences.

"How does what we see, and the way we see it, lead us to make meaning about the places in our lives?"

It took me several decades to return to my artwork, but I have done so with a renewed passion for seeing that the world around me is always in a state of flux.

I live and paint by the sea in Midcoast, Maine. My subject matter draws on the changing nature of light, water, wind, and clouds, and on the shifting effects of these elements on the world as we see it. 

"Places" - real, imagined, or remembered - remain a core passion of mine. Not to romanticize locations, but to look within as well as without, to understand that the way we see things affects the understanding we have about who we are and how we fit in the world.
